Problematic issues concerning the preparation of occupational therapists for professional activity in institutions of higher education

Introduction. A significant increase the number of people with disabilities in Ukraine creates a major social and economic problem that requires a multi-vector solution. Very important component of providing for the needs of people with disabilities with highly qualified assistance is the training of specialists for specialized institutions. According to experts, modern training in occupational therapy is of particular importance. The purpose of the study to determine the ways of improving the professional training of occupational therapists in institutions of higher education. Research methods. Process of formation of professional training of occupational therapists in institutions of higher education. Analysis and systematization of scientific and methodical literature, special literature on the training of occupational therapists, information resources of the Internet, a comparative method for the purpose of comparison and analysis of foreign and domestic experience on the investigated problem; content analysis of theoretical and methodical works (monographs, training manuals, methodical materials). Results. The problem of professional training of a specialist remains debatable. Scientists define as a process that reflects scientifically and methodically based measures of higher education aimed at forming the professional competence of an individual, sufficient for working with different segments of the population and taking into ac-count the peculiarities of the region and work. Professional training of occupational therapists involves the use of organizational and pedagogical measures ensuring formation of personality professionally orientated as well as his knowledge, skills and abilities. Conclusions. 1. The training of specialists or health care activities is a complex dynamic pedagogical system, which is characterized by the unity and interconnection of structural elements with a common goal, a common internal organization based on connections and dependencies between system components, interaction with the environment. 2. Information of future specialists’ preparedness in occupational therapy, a significant role is played by the focus on the formation of professional competence of the individual, sufficient for activities with different segments of the population. 3. An important component of the formation of the professional preparedness of an occupational therapist is professional practice aimed at acquiring skills in the organization of professional activities, the integration of theoretical knowledge and professional skills and abilities in practical activities.
